This is the last of the exhibit flies destined for the FFFT Expo next month. Black Ostrich marabou blended with Grey bucktail tied in hollow fleye style. I gave the fly a splash of colour with two reg grizzly hackles along its flank and a grey raccoon chin. 12" of meaty goodness

Another exhibit fly for the FFFT Expo next month. Again I used a Flymen fishing co articulated shank for the tail and abstained from attaching a stinger hook. This has a mix of Black n white bucktail tied in hollow fleye stylie and I used extra long Peacock hurl to give the fly volume and added length. Silver krinkle flash was added sparingly......less is more as they say. The forehead is Olive raccoon and the chin is white raccoon.

Even at 14" long you can barely feel its weight to hand. I have one more for tomorrow's post which makes up the set.

Heading to the Midlands this Easter weekend and will be fishing one of the best still waters up there with a couple of good mates. Orange is my go too colour so I tied up a couple of Orange Finn raccoon baities last night. Pearl white Ice Dub for the belly. Then cut a 3mm stip of the Orange raccoon zonker and then trimmed off the leather and tied on directly behind the hook eye. Then added some black Ice dub over the top of that. Stuck a couple of yellow eyes on and Bug bonded them down.....70 mm of meaty goodness, sorted!!.

Here’s a natural fur material that has a marabou like action but with more bulk and durability that I wish South Africa fly retailers would consider stocking, Finn Raccoon zonker strips from Eumer. It has so many fly application possibilities for both fresh and saltwater conditions.  Super soft fluffy under fur averaging between 25 mm to 75 mm in length is perfect for fly bodies, wings & tails or just dubbing material that is highly absorbent, perfect for those nymph patterns that need to sink quickly. Its Guard hairs are super straight and range in length between 50 mm – 100 mm.

It comes packaged in 40cm lengths but as you can see. just one 10 mm strip of the Finn Raccoon equates to 100 mm of rabbit zonker, so a little really does go a long way!!

There are 12 separate colours for me to work with so over the course of the next month or so I’m going to be tying a lot with this material just to show you how versatile it is.
