Spent the weekend fishing the UHTFC Xplorer festival this weekend and what a top event it was. I ended up with 16 Trout in total and two very nice bass as well. Fished some stunning water even through some tough conditions thrown at us by the gods on the Saturday after noon.

I really didn't bother taking many images of the fish I caught, well it wasn't that kind of event to be honest, but this is just one of four decent cock fish I pulled out from Abbingdon dam. This one with a Solarez Spoon fly....I know all you purists out there will be tutting and rolling your eyes around but to be brutally honest, I don't give a rats arse.... Have fished spoon flies all my life and they have caught m untold fish over the years so why not still water Trout.

Another decent Cock fish giving me the run around on the Sunday Morning.

Some Black articulated minkies for those low light conditions after the sun has disappeared behind the Kamberg Hills. 50 mm of meaty goodness heading to a still water soon! Could have done a better job dressing the tie off point behind the beaded ones though.

Tied up a couple of different variations of Articulated Minkies over the weekend. All are around 45 mm of tasty goodness. Super light to chuck with a 5wt and look the bollocks under the water.

These are a combination of Dark Brown Mink and Olive Fin Raccoon fur

These are tied with light brown Mink and I added a Banded Mongoose collar to both the tail and the head of the fly

Came back from the Expo with several sweet bits of swag, one of them being some mink off cuts to play around with from Vernon Maritz. His top tip was to tie up some Minkies which I did on Saturday and with my 3rd or 4th cast bagged a decent 50 cm cock fish from a decent stretch of still water up in the midlands on the Sunday.

He gave me a sample to copy which was just a plain simple black and brown combo version. Just to add a bit of zest to the pattern I palmered some red raggy chenille at the hook bend of the bottom fly and then trimmed to 5mm long. The top Minky I took one of the dark red elasticated head bands out of the packet he also gave me, stripped out the rubber inner and palmered on the chenille also to the back of the hook near the bend and finished the fly off with a 2 mm fluoro orange FLYWORX bead chain eyes. Now I'm not sure whether it was the bead chain eyes or the flashy chenille butt that attracted the fish or not, but I'm sticking to that thought process.

I tied some of these up a few months back specifically for this winters assault on the still waters in the midlands.

All are 80mm in length and based on Eivind Berulfsen's see through baitfish pattern I featured a few months back. These did well for me last season and I've added a few new colour variations to the mix this time.
