Thought about going the Peter Brigg spider route but ended up sticking with a foam rubber legs pattern. These have been tied onto a #8 14731 Caddis Larva Grip hook. I added some dubbing for the under body purely as a base to give the foam something to bind to.  Strapped a small piece of light brown foam on. Added 4 rubber legs. Positioned them how I wanted then added a tiny piece of yellow foam for an indicator....sorted!!

They float exactly how I was hoping they would. I'm not too worried if the rubber legs move around with the rivers current that much as I'm hoping they will give off much needed subtle vibrations giving the impression the spider is struggling to stay a float. I have a good feeling about these little wolf Spiders come January up in Lesotho.

Some meaty hoppers for January's assault on Lesotho. I started by adding a base of my Slab Slayer ice dub blend to the hook shank. I like to do this for two reasons. Firstly it gives me a decent base to attach the foam too and secondly I like that the underneath of the hopper has micro strands of flash that will give it a slightly more realistic look from below, especially after giving it a light coating of nail varnish once the fly is complete.

Not that I think the fish will mind, but I'll tie up another batch with fewer segments along the shank and I'll use knotted Pheasant tail legs instead of silli rubber legs.

With a trip set for Lesotho in late Jan next year, its nice to be able to start tying something different for a change. Ball biter ants are apparently one of the go to flies to fish with along the river.  Size 8 hooks were used for these.

Think the legs could be a little shorter and I might use a different colour for the foam indicator instead of white when I tie up the next batch, but on a whole am rather please with how they turned out.
