I fish with this style fly a lot for Largies up in the midlands when the weather is cooler and the fish are hanging low to the bottom. I add some lead wire to the hook shank then cover with body braid just to add some much needed weight. Palmer some medium chenille onto the front to form a head and stick a couple of eyes on. All are around 100mm in length
I do coat the leather strip around where the hook makes a hole and splits the rabbit zonker with some UV resin just to strengthen it. They don't last for ever and I probably only get around 20 to 30 fish with this kind of fly, but with only two materials to work with, I generally just strip them back off and re attach a new zonker strip and chenille head.
